The People and Stories Behind Design For A Difference

Experience the movement that is transforming spaces and people across the U.S. and Canada. Inspiring and informative, this blog is dedicated to all of those who make a difference with design in our every day lives.

How You Can Design for a Difference

Throughout the Design for a Difference contest, we have been highlighting community heroes all over the country. We have talked about who can be a community hero and what makes them a hero. From first responders and nurses, to teachers and everyday people, we have learned that truly any one can be a community hero when they give back selflessly.  Now it is your turn to give back to your community and become a hero. Designing for a difference doesn’t mean you have to do it alone, we can help you get started!

Working Together

As we have discovered through the DFAD – Home is Where The Heart Is journey, anyone can make a difference in their community. Looking back at our blog, How To Make A Difference In Your Community, we discussed the different ways you can give back. Complete a random act of kindness, donate your time, or participate in charity events. Being a hero doesn’t mean you have to wear a cape, it can be as simple as going out of your way to be kind to another person and making a difference in your community.

Are you looking to help a local organization or community hero and want to be a part of the Design For A Difference Community? We recommend reaching out to a local International Design Guild location and talking to them about your organization or community hero of choice. Mention to them that you learned about DFAD and would love for your organization or hero to get some TLC. You can team up with their in-store designer to help get the ball rolling and work with you to transform a space in need. Our IDG showrooms are more than happy to learn about your organization or community hero and how they make a difference in your community.

Working Together

Other ways you can Design for a Difference include reaching out to a local designer in your area. You can share with them the mission of DFAD and the story of your local organization or community hero. Local businesses helping other local business can help to make your community stronger. If teaming up with a designer is not an option for you, there is always the option to donate money or host a fundraiser for your organization or community hero. With those funds raised, you can present them to your organization or community hero as a gift to help them design a space that is more functional.
