Design for a Difference Home Makeover Contest Rules

ABOUT THE CONTEST. The Design for a Difference Contest is a redesign/makeover contest and does not include major renovations involving demolition, structural redesign (removal of walls, etc). or updates to systems (electrical, plumbing, etc.).  Rooms excluded from this contest include bathrooms, kitchens and exterior spaces.  The contest may provide: flooring, and a design consultation around lighting fixtures, paint, furnishings, and other decorative items.

ELIGIBILITY.  No purchase necessary. Making a purchase will not improve one’s chance of winning. Contest is limited to members of the general public who are customers of International Design Guild  or potential customers.  

TO ENTER the Contest you must complete a nomination form available at DesignForADifference.com. Only one entry per household.

By entering the Design for a Difference Contest, the contestant hereby understands that we may provide program and/or service information by phone, mail or email. 

Nominations must be posted at DesignForADifference.com on or before September 7th, 2020. On-line public voting will begin September 9th, 2020 and close on September 27th, 2020. 

Candidates and their sponsors are encouraged to solicit votes by sharing web-generated links to their entry page during the voting period. The top 10 entries with the most votes will move into the final round of judging which will be facilitated by a DFAD Judging Council. Official winners will be announced on October 12th, 2020 on DesignForADifference.com.

CONTEST PRIZES:   One (1) Grand Prize winner will be given up to $10,000 in free flooring and a one-on-one design consultation with a leading design expert.

Four Regional first place winners, one from each region, will receive prizes each valued at $2500 in the Northeast, Midwest, South and West.

NOMINATIONS AND JUDGING OF ENTRIES: Woobox.com will be the platform utilized for all entries and voting. Entries will include name and email address of contestant in addition to a 750 character count essay on the extraordinary work this community hero displayed during the Covid-19 pandemic. A photo of the nominee will also be required. User will also be required to select an IDG showroom nearest them. Users will also be encouraged to support DFAD by spreading the word and purchasing DFAD branded product that includes t-shirts, hats, water bottles, key chains, stickers, etc.

After the public voting period ends, verify of nominations will take place (i.e., US Citizen, min. 18 years of age, property owners, etc.) and final judging will take place. 

PRIZES AWARDED: The prize must be taken as stated and cannot be deferred. The prizes are non-transferable and cannot be substituted or redeemed for cash. Grand Prize winner will be chosen on or about October 5, 2020 Winners will be notified by October 12, 2020.  Prize winners are required to respond within 48 hours of being notified.  Prize winners are also required to execute an Affidavit of Eligibility and a Liability & Publicity Release, which must be completed and returned within 15 days of notification.  If prize winner does not respond within 48 hours and/or does not return the affidavit within the allotted 15 days, the prize will be forfeited and awarded to an alternate winner.    All applicable federal, state, and local taxes (excluding sales tax) are the responsibility of the winning charity.  Winners must provide tax id information and other information sufficient for Sponsor to issue a 1099 form, if applicable.  

ACCEPTENCE OF PRIZES: Acceptance of prize constitutes permission to use winner’s name, likeness, and photo for publicity purposes without additional compensation, including the filming of the project’s progress by the International Design Guild for purposes of promoting and publicizing future contests without further compensation.

Contest entrants must (i) be legal residents of the United States or Canada; (ii) be 18 years of age or older.  

Winners must arrange for prize installation no later than three (3) month following the award of the prize and installation must occur and be completed within six (6) months of confirmed notification.

The prize must be installed at a location owned by the nominee on the winning entry form.

Winning installation location must be in suitable condition (as determined by IDG or its designers) for installation of the prize (including compliance with local building codes and regulations).  For example, no water, mold, structural damage, etc.  All systems (electrical, plumbing, etc.) must functioning and in compliance with local building codes.  Any repairs or discovery items necessary for proper installation of the makeover elements must be performed at the owner’s expense prior to installation.

The winners will receive written proposal and must agree and sign a contract to install the project at stated.

Void where prohibited.  All Federal, State and Local Laws apply.  By entering the contest, participant agrees to be bound by these official rules. 

Liability for any applicable taxes, including all federal, state, and local taxes and/or other fees that may apply to prizes are the sole responsibility of the winning charity. Any required tax reporting forms will be furnished to the Internal Revenue Service.

The International Design Guild reserves the right at its sole discretion to suspend, modify or terminate this promotion without notice at any time.

By accepting prize, winner(s) agree that directors and officers will be released and held harmless from any losses, costs or injuries of any kind or related in any way to the use, misuse of the prize awarded.  Sponsor reserves the right to substitute alternate prize of equal or greater value due to prize unavailability.  Sponsor shall have no liability and shall be released and held harmless by winner(s) for any damage, loss, or liability to person or property, due in whole or part, directly or indirectly, by reason of acceptance, possession, use, misuse of prize or participation in raffle.  

Any and all disputes, claims and causes of action arising out of or connected with this Contest or any prize awarded shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, and exclusively by arbitration.  Any and all claims, judgments, and awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred, including costs associated with entering the Contest, but in no event attorney’s fees.
